SUMMER CAMP:
It's hard to believe, but summer is just around the corner. We will be offering our ARTmania summer camp again this summer; however we are changing the ages a bit. The younger camp (ages 5-8) will be Monday/Wednesday/Friday mornings from 9 - 12. Our older camp (ages 9-12) will be on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons from 3 - 6. Sign your child up for a week of creativity! Enrollment for ARTmania will begin on our website on April 1st. Do you have a teenager? Don't worrry we will offer classes for teens (and adults too!) in June and July.
DID YOU KNOW?
Willem De Kooning is possibly best known for his abstract paintings of women. Too poor to buy artists' pigments, De Kooning used black and white household enamels to paint a large series of abstractions in 1946, which became his first one-man show in New York at age 44. By 1950, he was one of the most prominent Abstract Expressionists, known for his complex figure ground ambiguity. In 1964, De Kooning was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Lyndon Johnson. De Kooning lived to be 92, although he suffered from Alzheimers in his later years. The painting below, "Woman III", sold for $137.5 million in 2006, making it the second most expensive painting ever sold.
