ARTichokes Show: May 5 - August 2, 2008 About the ArtistRebecca Pashia is a founder and permanent artist of ARTichokes. She was introduced to painting in high school, where her first painting, an acrylic still life of an artichoke and lemons, received the "Best of Show" and "Purchase Award" for the district art competition. After earning a degree in Interior Design from Kansas State University and taking extra art and business courses, Rebecca began her own business, Motif, which specializes in custom oil paintings to enhance interiors. Today, Rebecca's paintings are mainly large abstracts and landscapes. She paints the atmosphere surrounding the landscape, as well as simply the land forms, giving her paintings a moody and layered appearance. She often begins working from a photo, but can never quite stick to it. Eventually, her paintbrush and palette knife lead her on their own creative path. Her paintings have a peaceful, spiritual nature, where the viewer can't help but take a deep breath and get lost in the canvas for a moment. Rebecca has shown her paintings in numerous shows around Kansas City, and has created many commissioned pieces for businesses and residents. Her work was represented by The Leawood Fine Art Gallery at 119th and Roe in Leawood, Kansas and the Phoenix Gallery in Topeka, however, beginning this spring, Rebecca's paintings will only be available through ARTichokes. More of her paintings can be seen at www.designbymotif.com. In addition to painting, Rebecca strives to inspire creativity in children. She is the creator of Scribble Shop, a television program and music cd designed to encourage children to participate in both the visual and performing arts. Scribble Shop nurtures the imaginations of children while building their self-esteem. Rebecca has also published a lullaby tape, "A Little Something", and is currently writing a collection of children's stories. She lives in Leawood, Kansas with her husband and three sons. |
